How To Reinvent Your Relationship

January may have been the busiest month for newly filed divorce proceedings but what if you could reinvent your relationship instead of seeking a divorce? Here are five ways you could have the kind of relationship you’ve always wanted.

1. Give each other a style makeover

Get to the Mall and pick out clothes you both look fabulous in. Have fun with new colours and shapes and make each other feel a million dollars.

2. Take a Spa treatment together

Book a couples massage or treatment and enjoy the time together without talking about work or career, the children, or financial worries. Relax, and reconnect with the love you feel for your partner.

3.  Scrap date night in favour of lunch dates

Who wants to force their partner to go on date night when you’re both exhausted by the time the evening rolls around, and you’ve tracked down a reliable babysitter? Try and arrange to meet each other for lunch once a week instead, and watch your passion for each other intensify. Bonus-you’ll spend the afternoon thinking about each other and longing to get home early to be with them.

4. Take a retreat to the countryside

One of the simplest ways to revitalise your romantic energy is by taking a walk in the countryside. Whether you like being by the lakeside, or the riverside or just walking through vast green open spaces, getting in touch with nature will reinvigorate you. Scented flowers and sunlight all work to tantalise the senses, leaving you refreshed and ready to take on the challenges life throws at you.

5. Build time into your schedule to cuddle

Exchanging energy with your partner through touching in a non-sexual way raises your oxytocin levels – oxytocin is known as the ‘bonding’ hormone, and is released when you touch each other. Part of the wonderful sensations of being in love with your partner involve a surge of this hormone when you first meet.

The levels surge then tail off gradually, which is why a lot of couples report a feeling of no longer being in love with their partner after around six months into the relationship. To keep the levels of oxytocin high, and to enjoy the wonderful sensations of feeling and being love, connect with your partner through cuddling – often.
